Scientist - Advanced Mineral Development (focus on Grinding & Dispersion)

Job Summary

Work independently on work packages in grinding and dispersion research programs and actively contribute as a subject matter expert in cross-functional groups.

Work with chemical additives including dispersants, grinding aids and rheology modifiers in processes such as wet grinding, dry grinding, slurry makedown, surface modification, slurry dewatering, spray drying, slurry stabilization, particle size and stability analysis of mineral pigments.

Independently collect, generate and review data to compile scientific information for decision-makers in the company.

Implement the latest scientific findings and methods in their teams and independently generate data packages needed for publications, patents, presentations and other forms of communication.

Provide laboratory guidance for technicians, technologists and associate scientists.

Accountabilities

  • Clearly defines problems based on input from stakeholders and superiors and routinely conducts literature reviews prior to tackling new projects or technologies
  • Proactively seeks support and mentoring
  • Communicates clearly and effectively in a timely manner and verbal and written formats to varied technical audiences (internal and external)
  • Understands the alignment of project goals with the work packages and defines appropriate tasks
  • Project oriented looking at some significant advancements
  • Demonstrates technical competency by developing value-creating solutions when presented with problems of defined scope and impact
  • Uses Omya IP processes for protecting value
  • Conducts patent searches and understands trends and technical needs
  • Consistently demonstrates the highest SHE standards and lives by the Omya values
Requirements
  • University (Degree) in Science or Engineering Field
  • Good command of both oral and written English and German
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge in an appropriate natural scientific discipline and a willingness to do practical laboratory work
  • Ability to work independently and display innovative thinking
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Consistently applies the scientific method or statistical design processes
  • Good project management skills
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Valid driver's license
