Your role

The Machine Learning in Visual Computing Group at ZHAW, Zurich University of Applied Sciences University is offering a research engineering position as part of the IMMERSE project. IMMERSE is dedicated to driving the digital transformation of education and training through innovative immersive teaching and learning technologies. The project partners are University of Zurich, University Hospital Balgrist, PH Zurich, and well-known software companies which build an attractive research environment.

You will conduct applied research and development to innovate the way how XR is used in education activities. Your primary responsibility is to maintain and integrate new components into the XR visualization platform (using 3D beamer, head mounted displays and web-apps). To achieve this, you will collaborate with technical PhD students and scientists from an interdisciplinary team.

As a full-stack programmer, your tasks will include:

  • Maintain and extend the XR-platform.
  • Prototype XR-applications to demonstrate state-of-the-art XR capabilities.
  • Improving usability and the user interface.
  • Conducting integration and system tests.
  • Providing technical support during teaching and training activities.

Your profile

You are fluent in German or English and are interested in applied scientific work. This includes proposing novel ideas, scientific analysis and evaluations, implementing feasibility studies, creating convincing prototypes, validating results, writing reports, and presenting your results for scientific and industrial communities.

Your Profile:

  • Master degree in Computer Science (Visual Computing, Robotics or similar).
  • You enjoy staying ahead of technology and continually strive to improve solutions.
  • Track record in developing VR and/ or AR applications (Unity and/ or Unreal Engine).
  • Excellent programming skills with C++, C#, Python.
  • Experience in integrating hard- and software components into integrated prototypes
  • Experience in computer vision and camera system is beneficial
  • Proven teamwork, communication, and self-management skills
