Salt is looking for a security engineer to help implement and evolve its mobile and fixed network security strategy. You will work closely with the network security architect and cross-functional teams to translate risks into controls, implement (telecom-specific) security solutions, and embed security into engineering decisions across Salt’s core infrastructure.

Your duties

• Support implementation of Salt’s telecom security roadmap across SS7, Diameter, 5G, fixed access, and interconnect
• Support and enforce security controls for core and edge network domains (CS, PS, IMS, 5G SA, fixed)
• Support and monitor hardening standards, including validation of IAM implementations in line with Salt’s security policy.
• Work with IT, Core, Transport, and RAN teams to detect and resolve telecom-specific threats
• Contribute to threat modeling and protection of critical assets (confidentiality, integrity, availability)
• Investigate vulnerabilities and support remediation efforts for mobile and fixed network components
• Help maintaining Salt’s network risk register
• Understand IT security and know how to translate this to telco network security
• Ensure alignment with compliance requirements (ISO 27001/11, Swiss regulations, NIS, etc.)
• Provide input on secure architecture for new domains (e.g. 5G)
• Support in- and external audits, incident response planning, and security maturity reviews
• Help build security awareness and best practices across engineering and operations teams

What you bring

• Degree in engineering such as telecommunications, cybersecurity, or equivalent field
• Experience with or ability to learn working with telecom protocols: SS7, MAP, Diameter, GTP, SIP, RTP, HTTP2
• Deep understanding of Linux
• Understanding of core network architecture (CS, PS, IMS, VoLTE, 5G) is a preference
• Understanding of security controls, detection mechanisms, and IAM
• Familiarity with security frameworks: ISO 27001/11, NIS, BCP, etc.
• Experience with CVE management, vulnerability scanning, and risk evaluation
• Strong awareness of how AI and automation are applied in both attack techniques and defensive network security strategies.
• Exposure to virtualized and container-based network platforms (OpenStack, Kubernetes) is a plus
• Comfortable using security tooling, scripting, and automation
• Self-motivated, pragmatic, and eager to solve real-world challenges
• Good collaboration and communication skills
• Required language: English; German or French are a plus
