Formulation Pilot Plant Operator

The Formulation Pilot Plant Operator supports the scale-up, development, and trial manufacture of formulated products by operating pilot plant and laboratory equipment in line with defined procedures. The role plays a key part in enabling product development, process optimization, and generation of trial and GLP batches, while ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Contract: 1 year (extension possible)
Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Prepare, execute, and document formulation development, scale-up, and pilot plant manufacturing activities
  • Manufacture small-scale and pilot-scale formulation batches for field trials, GLP studies, and process improvement work
  • Operate, configure, clean, and maintain pilot plant and laboratory processing equipment
  • Ensure full compliance with HSE, quality standards, and hygiene requirements during all activities
  • Perform first-line maintenance and report equipment defects or failures
  • Record experimental data accurately and contribute to process risk assessments
  • Collaborate with engineers and pilot plant colleagues to plan and prioritize development trials
  • Proactively identify and implement improvements to formulations, equipment, and processing techniques
  • Coach and support colleagues, including supervision of junior staff when required
  • Work flexibly across laboratory and pilot plant environments based on project needs
Your Profile
  • Vocational training or significant experience (typically 5+ years) in a chemical manufacturing or development environment
  • Solid understanding of formulation manufacturing, from laboratory to pilot plant scale
  • Strong knowledge of HSE requirements, quality standards, and clean-down procedures
  • Experience with pilot plant equipment operation and first-line maintenance
  • Familiarity with manufacturing documentation and standard IT tools (e.g. Excel, Word, electronic documentation systems)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and document work accurately
  • Hands-on, proactive, and able to use sound judgment to progress activities independently
  • Team-oriented, flexible, and comfortable working in a dynamic pilot plant setting
  • Physically capable of performing manual tasks required in a pilot plant environment
