Job description

Avantor is looking for a dedicated Applications Support Specialist to join our team in Basel.

This role encompasses the development and maintenance of custom applications provided as a service to internal stakeholders, alongside the provision of hands-on IT support for local infrastructure, hardware, and user needs. You will ensure seamless digital operations by bridging software development and IT service delivery.

This is a full-time (40 hours/ week) and permanent position, based at our customer's site in Basel.

How you will thrive and make an impact:

Application Programming as a Service:

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable web apps and robust locally run applications / tools tailored to business needs.
  • Maintain and enhance existing applications, ensuring performance, security, and usability by establishing a thorough application lifecycle management guideline.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Implement APIs and integrations with third-party services and internal systems.
  • Monitor application performance and usage, applying updates and patches as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection and software licensing regulations

Local IT Support:

  • Provide first and second-level support for hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Lab Systems Support: Work on configuring and integrating laboratory workstations into our complex data landscape, making data accessible seamlessly and efficiently for our scientists. Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls in accordance with IT policies.
  • Support local network infrastructure, including troubleshooting connectivity issues. Understanding of network segregation and network design principles.
  • Coordinate with central IT teams for escalations and broader infrastructure projects.
  • Maintain inventory of IT assets and ensure timely procurement and replacement.
  • Fully functional and documented applications delivered on schedule.
  • Timely resolution of IT support tickets and incidents.
  • Regular reports on application performance and IT support metrics.
  • Updated documentation for systems, applications, and support procedures.

Required profile

What we're looking for:

Experience: Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) and CI/CD pipelines. Experience with Windows and Linux system administration. Proficiency in programming languages, in particular Python.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required; German language skills are considered a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with IT support tools (e.g., ticketing systems, remote desktop software).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell).
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with scientists and other stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and IT compliance standards.
