This role as Innovation Engineer - Robotics Lead is embedded in our Innovation Hub. You will work hands-on with prototypes, rapid iterations, and user-centric experiments to shape the future of robotics in CSSD workflows. As Robotics Engineer, you will translate functional requirements into technical concepts as well as design, develop, and test advanced robotic systems to enhance automation, efficiency, and operational excellence. Working in a multidisciplinary environment, you will combine expertise in robotics, software, electronics, and control systems to create intelligent and reliable robotic systems capable of performing complex tasks autonomously or collaboratively with humans. You will ensure the technical integrity, performance, and usability of the developed systems while contributing to innovation initiatives and the continuous advancement of robotic technologies within the organization.
Your main tasks will include- Design and develop robotic systems by specifying use cases and processes by translating functional requirements into technical designs
- Choosing and assembling appropriate components including actuators, manipulators, and platforms.
- Create system descriptions, also with the help of robotics design tools
- Training robots using suitable systems, state-of-the-art tools and platforms
- Implement, configure, adapt and optimize embedded software (firmware), scripts or control algorithms for motion control, path planning, and sensor integration
- Usage of robot operating systems (ROS/ROS2 preferred) as framework for navigation, control and autonomy
- Ensure interoperability with cloud systems, digital twins, and analytics platforms where required
- Assembly prototypes to validate performance, safety, and reliability
- Specify test procedures and conduct system-level testing, debugging, and root-cause analysis of robotic functions and behaviors
- Optimize system performance through iterative tuning of hardware, software, and control strategies
- Extension of the function range by integrating further sensors, machine vision systems, PLCs, IoT systems, AI, ...
- Ensure usability of the systems and target solutions
Your Profile
- Strong foundation in robotics including kinematics, dynamics, control algorithms and system architectures and technical product development
- Hands-on experience with automation technologies and rapid prototyping
- Solid knowledge of ROS/ROS2, SLAM, motion planning and perception systems and practical experience in integrating sensors, cameras, actuators and motor controllers
- Programming skills in robotics software development (e.g. C/C++, Python, Go) in Linux environments with Git and distributed systems
- Familiarity with simulation environments; experience with NVIDIA Isaac Sim is a plus
- Knowledge of machine learning approaches for perception or decision-making is beneficial
- Excellent analytical, coordination, communication and presentation skills
- Hands-on, curious team player with a strong willingness to learn, a proactive “can-do” mentality and passion for innovation
- Fluent in English; German is beneficial
