In a nutshell
You will help shape next-generation storage and intralogistics automation at Bystronic. Your focus is on software architecture for configurable storage systems and their integration into production environments, while also contributing to future topics like such as driverless transport vehicles, connected automation, and modern machine communication. This role requires strong technical ownership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving and sometimes ambiguous engineering environment.
What drives this department
Our team develops the automation backbone for material flow in sheet metal manufacturing. We work at the intersection of software, machines, and logistics systems, including storage, integration, and transport solutions. The work is highly interdisciplinary and requires pragmatic problem solving, collaboration, and ownership across systems.
What you will be doing
- Design and implement PLC software architectures for highly configurable storage and intralogistics systems using Beckhoff TwinCAT
- Develop scalable automation concepts for machine integration, material flow coordination, and distributed system communication
- Contribute to the integration of storage systems with laser cutting cells, bending cells, MES systems, and future AGV fleets
- Contribute to modern industrial connectivity architectures using MQTT, OPC UA, and related IoT technologies
- Take ownership of technical topics from concept definition through commissioning and release
- Collaborate closely with software, electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering teams across multiple projects
- Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis in complex mechatronic systems
- Help establish engineering best practices, modular architectures, and maintainable software standards
- Mentor less experienced engineers and actively contribute to team developmentContribute to modern industrial connectivity solutions using technologies such as MQTT and OPC UA
Your education & experience
- You have a degree in electrical engineering, automation, mechatronics, computer science, or similar technical field
- You bring several years of hands-on experience in PLC software development for industrial automation systems and have strong experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT and EtherCAT-based machine architectures
- You have experience with distributed industrial communication systems and protocols such as MQTT, OPC UA, or Profinet
- You are confident and experienced in integrating complex industrial systems and in coordinating multiple machine interfaces
- You are familiar with modern software engineering practices including Git-based workflows and agile development methods

- You are comfortable operating autonomously and driving topics forward with limited structure or predefined solutions
